National POW/MIA Recognition Day

92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs

A 2012 National POW/MIA Retreat ceremony is scheduled to take place Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. in front of the 336th Training Group headquarters building flagpole.

The National POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of observance for all Americans to pause in remembrance of the sacrifices and service of those who were prisoners of war as well as those who are missing in action.

The 2012 national theme, "Until They Are Home," recognizes family members of POW/MIAs, many of whom continue to wait for the return of their loved ones.

This day is traditionally observed on the third Friday in September and is one of six days that Congress has mandated the flying of the National League of Families' POW/MIA flag. The other days are: Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day.

Anyone authorized to access the base is invited to attend the ceremony. Military personnel attending the ceremony should wear their uniform of the day.
