JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The 902nd Security Forces Squadron will be hosting a Citizens Police Academy to educate and train members of the community at 8 a.m. Jan. 31, 2019, at building 205 inside the training room at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. The training will empower members of our community to help provide a safer place for families and mission partners.
“This is comparable to an educated and trained neighborhood watch to bolster a safe environment for our community here at Randolph,” said Tech. Sgt. Angelina Simms, 902nd SFS NCO in charge of police services.
Security forces heard about the program from the Cibolo Police Department, which has its own Citizen on Patrol Academy.
“We utilize our relationship with them to gather information from their program to construct ours,” Simms said. “We worked with them and tailored the course to the resources we have in order to produce the best training.”
Lt. Col. Dennis Trutwin, 902nd SFS commander, will come in and speak with the class and provide an overview of the program and why security forces is seeking the help of the community.
“This ties into ‘see something, say something,’” Simms said. “This will assist us in having more people observing and reporting since we cannot be everywhere at once.”
During the four-hour course, volunteers will learn about personal security, how to interact with law enforcement and security operations on JBSA-Randolph.
