188th Medical Battalion changes leadership

Army Lt. Col. James L. Pulliam assumed command of the 188th Medical Battalion at a ceremony held at the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston July 13.

Pulliam is only the second commander of the 188th MED BN, formally known as the Academy Battalion Provisional, which was renamed June 1.

Former commander Lt. Col. Amy L. Jackson took command two years ago when the battalion first was stood up as part of an Army Medical Department Center & School reorganization. Since then, the 188th MED BN has graduated more than 5,000 students.

A diverse medical battalion, it is responsible for the instruction of 10 military occupational specialties and consists of a Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment and four companies overseeing the Department of Dental Science, the Department of Preventive Health Services, the Department of Veterinary Science, the Department of Behavioral Health Science, the Nutrition and Diet Therapy Branch, the Department of Warrior Transition Unit, the Department of Nursing Science and the School of Army Aviation Medicine.
