JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The REAL ID Act was enacted to implement the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the Federal Government “set standards for the issuance…of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses.” The Act prohibits Federal agencies from accepting, for official purposes, driver’s licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards.

States that are compliant with the current REAL ID Act
Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Extension states and territories
The following states or territories have been extended until Oct 10, 2017. However, the enforcement period for these states or territories will start Jan 22, 2018. Federal agencies will accept driver’s licenses and identification cards from
Alaska, American Samoa, California, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, N. Marianas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, N. Carolina, N. Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, S. Carolina, Texas, Virgin Islands, Virginia and Washingtonuntil midnight Jan 22, 2018.
Oregon extension expires today, July 10, 2017.
For non-complaint states or territories, at least one of the following documents are required in conjunction with the non-complaint Driver’s License or Identification card for the purpose of identity proofing.
(1) State Government or Local municipality identification card with photo
(2) Concealed Handgun License or License to carry (CHL)
(3) Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA)
(4) College/University identification card with photo
