JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Airmen from the 59th Training Group at the enlisted Air Force Medical Service dormitory at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston gathered May 31 for a ceremony to officially declare the dormitory a “Green Dot Zone.”
The Air Force has adopted and adapted “Green Dot” as the primary prevention education program to address interpersonal violence, like sexual assault, dating / domestic violence and stalking, as well as suicide prevention.
The “Green Dot Zone” declares that interpersonal violence is not tolerated in the Air Force and those who enter the dormitory commit to taking on the mission of awareness and prevention of all types of violence.
It also declares the dormitory will provide Airmen who dwell there a safe space of belonging, and in return, the Airmen will serve and interact with one another in a manner consistent with the Air Force Core Values and demonstrate behaviors focused on ending interpersonal violence throughout the Air Force, one “Green Dot” at a time.
A “Green Dot Zone” hallway was designated as a focal point in the dormitory for strengthening violence prevention efforts by reinforcing Green Dot principles, and influencing all Airmen to be resilient, reactive, and proactive bystanders.
Col. Steven Caberto, 59th Training Group Commander, welcomed guests from the 502nd Air Base Wing to the ceremony, including the guest speaker Marlo Bearden, 502nd Air Base Wing Prevention Specialist and Col. Mark Lee, 502nd ABW vice commander.
The hallway remodel and unveiling ceremony were commissioned by Caberto and completed by a committee led by Master Sgt. Evita Bodhi, the 59th TRG Green Dot coordinator, along with Master Sgt. Paul Vestal and Tech. Sgt. Adrian Washington.
