Soldiers from the 264th Medical Battalion at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston read to students at East Terrell Hills Elementary School during the National Education Association Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day nationwide reading celebration March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens and books.

As part of the Fort Sam Houston Adopt-A-School program, the Soldiers of the 264th Medical Battalion are regular fixtures at East Terrell Hills Elementary School, with 50 cadre members volunteering more than 1,500 hours each year in events such as career day, festivals, appreciation breakfasts, health fairs, clothing drives and reading days.

The battalion also participates in East Terrell Hills Community Outreach Programs, helping to build a sense of community, trust and support between surrounding neighborhoods and school.
