U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School veterinarians have pets to adopt

By Jose Rodriguez U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School Public Affairs

Thinking about adopting a pet? The U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School, Department of Veterinary Science Animal Health Branch at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston has launched a new website at https://ke.army.mil/petadoption/ to retire and find a loving home for each of our animals.

There is no charge to adopt these animals and all will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The dogs for adoption have not been trained in detection and/or patrol work and have a gentle temperament. None are retired police dogs. Veterinary officials also said the animals have not been house or litter trained.

The length of time before an adopted pet can be taken home depends on the individual animal. If the pet has not been spayed/neutered, veterinarians will perform that surgery and allow the pet to be sent home after the surgery site has completely healed. For those that have already had surgery, the application review and processing typically takes between two to four weeks.

If interested in adopting an advertised dog/cat, fill out the adoption application by clicking on link titled “Adoption Application” at https://ke.army.mil/petadoption/ and email it to usarmy.jbsa.medcom-ameddcs.mbx.dvs-ahb@mail.mil. The adoption policy can be viewed at https://ke.army.mil/petadoption/docs/policy.pdf.
