Memorial held for fallen battlefield Airman

Members of the 350th Battlefield Airmen Training Squadron and from throughout Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland participated in a 1-mile log march during a memorial remembrance ceremony honoring Lt. Col. William “Bill” Schroeder April 7, 2017, at JBSA-Lackland, Texas, Medina Annex. Schroeder’s unit honored his legacy renaming a drop zone as Schroeder DZ and participated in a "Monster Mash" fitness competition, remembrance ceremony and log march. April 8, 2016, Schroeder recognized a perilous situation developing and reacted swiftly by putting himself between an armed individual and his first sergeant. In the process, he saved lives of other squadron members while being fatally wounded. Schroeder was posthumously awarded the Airman’s Medal, given to those that distinguish themselves by a heroic act – usually at the volunteer risk of their lives but not involving combat. April is Autism Awareness Month, a time which focuses on promoting awareness, acceptance and appreciation for those with autism. According to the Autism Society of America, autism is a complex developmental disability which affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. It is characterized by social-interaction difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors.

Air Force testing program to expedite civilians’ EEO complaints

An Air Force test program is allowing civilians who file equal employment opportunity complaints to pursue an option that can expedite their cases. The pilot program for the Compressed, Orderly, Rapid and Equitable process, also known as CORE, began Oct. 1 and will continue through fiscal year 2018.

AMEDDC&S helps retiring pets find homes

Oliver is one of several retiring government-owned animals, dogs and cats, who are being put up for adoption so they can be placed in a new home.

BAMC celebrates 100th anniversary of occupational therapy profession

Occupational therapy centers on the targeted use of activities (like painting a bird house) to increase individual overall functioning.  Occupational therapy believes that it’s not enough to only increase an individual’s strength or endurance; rather, it’s more important to allow an individual to get back to engaging in personally-meaningful activities.
