Gate Closure and Construction


Throughout Joint Base San Antonio, installation entry control points, otherwise known as the base gates, will undergo multiple construction projects starting January 2019. These necessary construction projects will enhance force protection capability across JBSA, and when complete, will enhance the safety and security of the workforce, family and visitors. This construction will impact mission partners, commercial deliveries and visitors across JBSA.   


The Security Forces Group recommends that organizations stagger reporting times to minimize traffic. For additional information, questions, or concerns, please contact the Anti-Terrorism Program Managers listed below.  


Gate Closure             -   Lindsey Gate (Main Gate)
Start Date                   -  Jan. 7
Estimated Duration   -  100 Days

Below are new gate hours to accommodate the closure:

West Gate: 24/7

East Gate: Monday - Friday 5:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Closed on holidays)

South Gate: Monday - Friday 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Closed on holidays)

The Visitor Control Center (VCC) will maintain its normal hours and operations (Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on the weekends and holidays to include family days). The VCC will provide a shuttle service for pedestrians from the VCC to the Burger King parking lot. The West Gate will provide VCC services when the VCC is closed. The High School Gate will maintain its normal hours and operations.


Lane Closures           -   Valley-Hi (Airmen's Gate)
Start Date                   -   Jan. 21
Estimated Duration   -   134 Days

Inbound lanes will be completely closed while normal outbound lanes will be transitioned to accommodate two-way traffic. Traffic flow will be severely impacted.

Valley-Hi (Airman’s Gate): 24/7. (1 lane in / 1 lane out)

Selfridge West/East: Monday-Wednesday 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., Thursday-Friday 5:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Luke East: 24/7 
                  6 a.m. – 9 a.m.   (3 lanes inbound / 1 lane outbound)
                  9 a.m. – 6 p.m.    (2 lanes inbound / 2 lanes outbound) 

Luke West: Monday-Wednesday 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.  (Inbound/outbound), 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  (Outbound)
                   Thursday-Friday 5:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.  (Inbound/outbound)
                   Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Growden: Monday-Friday 5 a.m. - 6p.m. Saturday-Sunday 5 a.m. - 5 p.m.


Gate Closure             -   Jadwin Gate
Start Date                   -   Jan. 7
Estimated Duration   -   115 Days


Jadwin Gate is commercial access only and drivers have been informed of alternative routes and new gate hours.

Entering JBSA
In order to enter JBSA locations, visitors are required to have a valid form of identification and to have a sponsor with a valid DoD ID card.

Real ID Act

JBSA implemented REAL ID Act, Sept. 15, 2016

Identification cards from the following states will be denied access or must be escorted if they cannot present an alternate identification credential: American Samoa, Minnesota, Missouri and Washington.

Additionally, as part of DHS REAL ID phase implementation, starting Oct. 10, the following states will also require an alternate identification credential: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, N. Marianas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and the Virgin Islands.

Per the Homeland Security REAL ID web page (https://www.dhs.gov/real-id), every state ID can be accepted at this time.
