LIEUTENANT COLONEL DANNY P. "CHIP" JOHNSON

Lt. Col. "Chip" Johnson is the Deputy Commander of Joint Base San Antonio's 902nd Mission Support Group, where he oversees all mission support functions at JBSA - Randolph, Air Education and Training Command's "Showplace of the Air Force." The group directs all 502nd Air Base Wing mission support on JBSA-Randolph to include civil engineering, security, law enforcement, fire protection, communications-computer infrastructure, personnel, housing and lodging, supply, transportation, contracting, logistics support, and morale, welfare and recreation services directly impacting 42 agencies with over 60,000 active-duty, civilian and retired personnel. The group consists of nine squadrons totaling more than 1,500 personnel with an annual budget of $97 million. The group oversees a historic Air Force Base with 1,058 facilities, 659 housing units and 5,098 acres of grounds and airfields valued at over $2 billion.

Colonel Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Southern Mississippi and was commissioned through Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps, in 1991.

A logistics readiness officer, Colonel Johnson has served in a myriad of logistics positions at the base, wing, depot, major command, embassy and Air Staff level. Colonel Johnson has twice commanded logistics readiness squadrons, most recently at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
