School systems serving JBSA families receive $5 million grant

Marcus Ligenfelter, (left) president of the National Math and Science Initiative, or NMSI, presents a $5 million check Feb. 27 earmarked for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, education in high schools serving military dependents at Joint Base San Antonio. This is the first round of funding and will be directed to individual school districts within JBSA to incentivize advanced placement classes. This is a Department of Defense-supported initiative to provide the successful model to the military. Also in photo from left are Rad Weaver, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce president; Brig. Gen.
