Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston –
Col. David L. Raugh took command of the 502nd Force Support
Group from Col. Steven A. Toft in a change of command ceremony at Fort Sam
Houston June 22.
Raugh comes to the group from the University of Central
Florida Security Studies Ph.D. program where he was a member of the U.S. Army
Advanced Strategic Plans and Policy Program. Toft had led the 502nd FSG since
Aug. 9, 2013.
The new 502nd FSG commander received his Army commission as
an armor lieutenant in 1993 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.,
where he received his bachelor in science in environmental science and systems
engineering. Raugh also holds a master of science in adult education from
Kansas State University in 2004 and a master of military art and science in
campaign design from the School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort
Leavenworth, Kan., in 2005.
Raugh has commanded military formations up to and including
a battalion of more than 560 men and women in Afghanistan and has more than
five years of extensive overseas experience in the Middle East and Eastern
Europe. The colonel also served as a member of the NORAD-U.S. Northern Command
Commander’s Initiatives Group at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs,
Colo.
