Operation Shower

Speaker: Command Sgt. Maj. Patrick Alston, U.S. Strategic Command senior enlisted advisor

Location: Campanas at Cibolo Canyons, 22710 Colibries, San Antonio

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Operation Shower is a non-profit organization dedicated to showing appreciation and love to military families by hosting group baby showers for military moms-to-be whose spouses are deployed or seriously injured. Operation Shower also features a “B is for Baby” individual gift box program for military moms unable to attend a group baby shower. U.S. Military Veterans Parade & Wreath Laying at the Alamo

Location: Alamo Plaza

Time: 10 a.m wreath laying and parade at noon.

The U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association presents the annual veterans parade in downtown San Antonio. During the wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Alamo, representatives from each military service and special guests speak briefly then carry wreaths to the entrance of the Alamo in recognition of the nation’s and Texas veterans. The parade begins at noon.

 

Spurs Veterans Day Game Celebrate America’s Military night

San Antonio Spurs vs. Charlotte Hornets

Location: AT&T Center

Time: 7:30 p.m.

The San Antonio Spurs host a Veterans Day celebration game in honor of active duty and retired military service members. The game features recognition of military members as well as discounted tickets for those that are wearing and have worn the uniform and their families. The Spurs will wear their Military City U.S.A. Pride Uniforms for this game. All game tickets purchased through the website listed include a special military-themed Spurs T-shirt. The T-shirts will be available for pick up at the game and instructions will be emailed to the address on the ticket purchaser’s account 48 hours prior to the game. The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 and is comprised of 43,000 civilians in more than 245 councils around the world working to support sea service members and their families. Moment of Silence and National Roll Call, Texas A&M University-San Antonio

Location: Patriots’ Casa, One University Way, San Antonio

Time: 9 a.m

Texas A&M University-San Antonio will honor service members with a wreath-laying ceremony, moment of silence and National Roll Call on Veterans Day at the Patriots’ Casa. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Celebrate America’s Military at University of Texas at San Antonio Main Campus

Location: The University of Texas at San Antonio Main Campus at NW Loop 1604, One UTSA Circle.

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate in the National Roll Call by reading names of warriors who gave their lives for our country. ROTC units will conduct a pass in review ceremony in the Central Plaza Sombrilla. The pass in review is a long standing military tradition that began as a way for a newly assigned commander to inspect his or her troops. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Bauerle Road Garage for a fee.

9:30 a.m.: Wreath-laying ceremony, moment of silence and National Roll Call.

10:30 a.m.: Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band performs

11 a.m.: U.S. Army ROTC & U.S. Air Force ROTC pass in review

 

Celebrate America’s Military at  University of Texas at San Antonio

Location: Downtown Campus at Bill Miller Plaza, 501 Cesar E. Chavez Blvd

A series of events as a tribute to those who have answered our nation’s call to serve. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in Lot D3 under Interstate 35.

Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Veterans Day Resource Fair

11-11:30 a.m.: Laying of the wreath, recognition of veterans and special guests

11:30 a.m. to noon: Presentation by admissions and veterans certification regarding UTSA admissions process and resources

Noon to 1 p.m.: “Challenges In Transitioning from Active Duty to Higher Education” presentation and  panel discussion featuring Mary McNaughton-Cassill, Ph.D.

 

Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Commemorative Ceremony

Speaker: Brig. Gen. John L. Poppe, chief of the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps

Location: San Antonio National Cemetery, 517 Paso Hondo St.

Time: 1:30 p.m.

Comprised of former slaves, freedmen and Black Civil War veterans, the historic Buffalo Soldiers persevered through the most difficult conditions imaginable to become some of the most elite and most decorated units in the U.S. Army. The annual Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Commemorative Ceremony at the San Antonio National Cemetery honors these past heroes with a keynote speaker, the reading of a memorial list, military honors and taps, and a benediction. San Antonio Symphony Veteran’s Day Concert featuring the U.S. Air Force Band of the West and 323rd Army Band “Fort Sam’s Own”

Location: Tobin Center, 100 Auditorium Circle

Time: 7-9 p.m

This concert is free and open to the public. Speaker: Lt. Gen. Perry L. Wiggins, commanding general, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and senior Army commander of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis

Location: MacArthur Parade Field, Fort Sam Houston

Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The U.S. Army on Fort Sam Houston will host a “Salute to Veterans” ceremony and celebration. The event will welcome and honor our veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice to our nation. The event will include a military review ceremony, military static displays, food and more.

UIW Military AppreciationFootball Game

Location: Benson Stadium at the  University of the Incarnate Word, 4301 Broadway

Time: 2 p.m. kickoff

UIW football plays Lamar University with 2 p.m. kickoff. UIW Athletics and Extended Academic Programs will host a pre-game military appreciation tailgate. Free admission to the game and tailgate for all active-duty military, veterans, and Department of Defense employees with ID and their families. Children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. USO and Brackenridge Park CAM Day for the Troops

Location: Brackenridge Park, Golf Course, Zoo, Witte Museum

Time: All Day

Tentative activities include visits to the San Antonio Zoo, Witte Museum, Kids Zone, train rides, softball tournament, golf, lunch and entertainment. Free for all military ID holders including active duty, family members, Guard, Reserves and retirees.

UTSA vs. Rice Military Appreciation Football Game

Location: Alamodome, 100 Montana St., San Antonio at 6 p.m.

Join fellow Roadrunner fans in honoring all veterans and active military during the Military Appreciation game when UTSA takes on the Rice University Owls. Tailgating begins at 11 a.m. For tickets, call the UTSA Athletics Ticket Office at 210-458-UTSA (8872). As a “thank you” to military personnel, generous donors have made tickets available for active duty and Reserve service men, women and their families.
