The 314th Military Intelligence Battalion knocked off previously undefeated Air Force Information Operations Center 41-32 Jan. 25 at the Chaparral Fitness Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
AFIOC is the defending base intramural champion. Before playing Battalion, they were 6-0 at first place in the Division I (National) basketball intramurals.
Battalion was struggling with a 2-4 record near the bottom of the standings.
However, AFIOC and Battalion went toe-to-toe every step of the way. For most of the game, both teams exchanged point for point.
Throughout the game, the court echoed with constant shouts from Angelo Baxter, the Battalion team captain.
"That was the championship team we just beat," Baxter said after the 314th won. "I expect nothing less the next time we play. We played well defensively - out-rebounded them and capitalized on their mistakes. With this victory we proved that we can beat the best."
The win for the 314th may give them a chance to make the postseason competition, set to begin Feb. 21.
