LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, TEXAS –
The Stacey High School volleyball team faced the number one team in their district, and the number one 1-A team in the state according to SASports.com, the Flatonia Bulldogs on Oct. 2.
The junior varsity teams squared off first, and the Bulldogs won the best-of-three match against the Eagles in two games, as Stacey lost 14-25 in both contests.
The Eagles varsity team came up short, losing their best-of-five match in three games.
The first game featured setter Stephanie Glatt delivering two aces, while outside hitter Domini Davis recorded a kill in the game, but they could not sustain enough offense, as the final score was 9-25.
In the second game, the Eagles came out strong, earning a 2-0 lead. However, they would eventually fall 15-25. Davis recorded two aces in the contest, while opposite hitter Don'yelle Gibson recorded a kill.
Middle Blocker Ali Vargas recorded a kill and also stuffed the attacking Bulldogs at the net to earn the Eagles their seventh point.
In the final match, the Eagles again jumped to a quick lead over Flatonia, but would not sustain it, ending with a final score of 11-25. Glatt recorded a save in the game.
The Eagles will continue district play against Shiner High School at home on Oct. 16. Competition begins at 5 p.m.
