Stacey Eagles defeat Bulldogs in district play, prepare for playoffs

By Tony Perez 37th Training Wing Public Affairs Office

The Eagles wrapped up district play Feb. 5 by defeating the La Pryor Bulldogs 62-38.

The win, coupled with Sabinal High School's win, forced the two teams into a tie for second place.
This will be the first time that the girls team will advance to the playoffs in the history of the school.

Point guard Shana Holmes scored 11 of her game high 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Shooting guard Domini Davis scored 12 points, and point guard Don'yelle Gibson chipped in nine points in the final home game of their careers.

The Eagles won the game without small forward Stephanie Glatt, who did not play due to illness. Glatt's absence forced forward Megan Benoit into the starting line-up.

Benoit played well in her as extended role, grabbing many key rebounds for her team. She finished the game with four points.

The game started slow, with the scoreboard showing the Eagles having a 3-2 lead with more than half of the first quarter having already elapsed.

The team made a run in the final minutes to take a 12-2 lead at the end of the quarter and were never threatened after that.

The Eagles led 27-10 at halftime and never stopped delivering the pressure defense that has been their signature all season.

Because of the second place tie, the Eagles will face Sabinal High School Saturday at a neutral site that was not determined as of press time.

The game will determine where the teams are seeded in the playoffs, and their travel destinations.

The victory marked the last home game for Davis and Gibson because they will graduate in May.

After the game, they were recognized for their achievements by Stacey High School principal Dr, Burnie Roper.
