LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
More than 800 people attended the 2008 Lackland Idol Contest at Arnold Hall Community Center June 27.
Contestants were judged on three criteria: technical excellence, showmanship, and interpretation of material and costuming.
With 28 contestants ranging in age from 16 to 45, Zuhal Rick, event programmer, was excited about the turnout.
"The event was a huge success," she said, adding that the tremendous participation guarantees it will become an annual event.
Allison Hollis won first place by singing "His Eyes on the Sparrow." Ms. Hollis said she sang the song for her husband, Senior Airman Todd Hollis, who is currently deployed from the 59th Radiology Squadron. "I decided to go with my heart," she said.
Senior Airman Naomi Keen, 37th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, won second place with her version of "Proud Mary." Singing "No One" and coming in third was Staff Sgt. Tiffany Hill, 59th Medical Logistics and Readiness Squadron.
