Today's barbecue luncheon kicks off Randolph's 2009 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign

By Robert Goetz 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs

Randolph's 2009 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, which benefits four charitable affiliates that support the Air Force Family, will officially begin today with a barbecue luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel annex.

Admission to the luncheon - which will feature hamburgers, chicken and a fish fry option - is free to all base personnel, but donations of $5 to $10 will be accepted, said Maj. Andrew Quinn, the base's AFAF program manager. Gen. Stephen Lorenz, Air Education and Training Command commander, plans to attend the event.

"Our Air Force, Our Family" is the theme of this year's campaign, which annually supports the Air Force Enlisted Village and Air Force Village Indigent Widows' Funds, the Air Force Aid Society and the Gen. and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation. The charities meet the needs of active-duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and retirees and family members.

Major Quinn said Randolph's goal is $179,596, which is double the base's prescribed goal set by the Secretary of the Air Force.

"We will strive for 100 percent contact with all active-duty, Guard and Reserve personnel so everyone is aware of this opportunity to give," he said.

Major Quinn said representatives will be appointed down to the squadron level or below for each unit on base.

"These reps should contact each military member directly," he said. "If people are concerned that their unit was left out or does not have a representative, or that a representative is difficult to contact, they are encouraged to contact their respective group or tenant headquarters point-of-contact for more information or donation options."

These are the POCs for the major units on base:
