Newly chosen master sergeants to be inducted into SNCO ranks

By Robert Goetz 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs

Team Randolph's annual senior NCO induction ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. July 30 at the Parr Club.

This year's event, titled "SNCO Committed to Excellence," will feature former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Eric Benken as guest speaker.

"The SNCO ceremony honors individuals who have recently been selected for promotion to master sergeant," said Master Sgt. Todd Faber, event coordinator. "It is a ceremony inducting them into the SNCO ranks."

This year's guest speaker, Chief Benken, served as chief master sergeant of the Air Force from November 1996 to July 1999. A Cincinnati native, he entered the Air Force in 1970 and was assigned to the 2578th Supply Squadron at Ellington Air Force Base, Texas.

Chief Benken served in Vietnam and at Bergstrom AFB, Texas, Osan Air Base, Korea, and Eglin AFB, Fla., before becoming senior enlisted adviser to the commanders of the 12th Air Force, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein AB, Germany.

The induction takes place each year after the names of newly selected master sergeants are announced. This year's results were released May 14.

Attendance at the ceremony is by invitation only, Sergeant Faber said, and each unit has representatives available to sign up.
