LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
Base officials are looking for two articulate, self-confident members of Team Lackland to serve as goodwill ambassadors at community events throughout 2010, including the city's annual 11-day Fiesta celebration in April.
New ambassadors are chosen every year to represent Team Lackland at many community events and promote the military's commitment and relationship with the local communities around southern Texas.
One male and one female member of Team Lackland will be selected to serve as the 2010 Team Lackland Ambassadors.
Senior Airman Melissa White, a civic outreach specialist with the 37th Training Wing Public Affairs Office, said the program strengthens Lackland's relationship with the local community while educating the public about the Air Force.
"The ambassadors represent Lackland Air Force Base, attending more than 60 events over the 11 days of Fiesta and throughout the year at various civic events reaching more than 4.5 million citizens," Airman White said. "By getting out in the community and talking to people, we really open a lot of eyes about what Airmen do every day, which goes a long way toward building community support."
All Air Force members and DoD civilians who are over 21 and assigned to Team Lackland are eligible to apply to be an ambassador.
Nomination packages are available at the 37th Training Wing public affairs office. Once nominated, candidates appear before a seven-member panel that reviews applications, conducts interviews and selects two representatives.
Members of units, except the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency, are eligible to serve as Team Lackland ambassadors. AFISR has its own ambassador program.
The nomination deadline is Dec 1. For more information, call 671-2907.
