AETC names 2009 AF Medical Service award winners

Air Education and Training Command announced command-level awards for several Team Randolph medical professionals.

"Annually, medical units from each AETC base nominate medical professionals, units, flights, teams, and groups for MAJCOM-level awards for outstanding achievement," said Tech. Sgt. Rodney Streat, Medical Administrative Services NCOIC. "This year was no different, and the competition raised the bar once again."

Winners of the 2009 Air Force Medical Service awards were first nominated by their individual unit supervisors, Sergeant Streat explained. Each unit carried out its own selection process, then sent those winners to AETC, where a panel of medical functional experts reviewed each nominee.

Of AETC's 13 bases and 201 award categories, Team Randolph won three team awards and eight individual awards.

Teams Public Health, Diagnostic Imaging and Aerospace, all from the 12th Medical Group, each won in their respective category for Best Team award.

The following 12th MDG Airmen and civilians won the following individual awards:

Aerospace Physiology
Field Grade Officer: Maj. Lance Annicelli
Senior NCO: Senior Master Sgt. Joseph Dunteman
NCO" Tech. Sgt. Andrew Flora

Optometry
Col. P. Timothy Ray Company Grade Optometrist: Capt. Scott Martin

Public Health
Company Grade Officer: Capt. Cesar Romero

Health Plans Management
NCO: Staff Sgt. Tirzah Lefeber
Civilian: Patricia Woodward

Global Health Persons of the Year
NCO: Tech. Sgt. Miriam Saiz

"It is my great pleasure to announce the winners of the 2009 Air Education and Training Command, Air Force Medical Service annual awards," said Col. Merrily Madero, AETC director of staff. "Congratulations to all winners and nominees."

Winners of the AETC-level awards will advance to the Air Force-level, and compete against other MAJCOM winners in each respective category.
