Military clothing sales, food court to close, re-open at new BX Mall next week

By Sean Bowlin 502d Air Base Wing OL-B Public Affairs

Team Randolph's Base Exchange Military Clothing Sales Store and Food Court will close next week at their present location. Then, they'll quickly re-open in the new BX Mall location, the local Army and Air Force Exchange Service general manager said last week.

"This will be a chance to build up some excitement for the new BX Mall's March 5 grand opening," said Shelly Milum Armstong, general manager, San Antonio Exchange.

Ms. Armstrong said the MCSS will close Wednesday and will re-open in the new mall Feb. 19. It will operate Mondays-Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. The Food Court will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday and will re-open in the new mall on Feb. 19.

There are some additions to the new, $24 million, 167,000 square-foot, energy-efficient BX Mall, Ms. Armstrong said.

A Starbucks Coffee location, which opens at 6 a.m. daily, is coming to the food court Tuesday. Additionally, Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits and Manchu Wok eateries will open in the food court on Feb. 19. The Robin Hood Sandwich Shoppe will stay open in its present location until it re-opens in the new BX Mall's food court March 4. Anthony's Pizza and Charley's Steakery will also be located there.

Additionally, a Game Stop, satellite military pharmacy, United Parcel Service store and an Enterprise Rent-a-Car kiosk are all scheduled to begin serving customers Feb. 19 in the new BX Mall, which will also feature barber and beauty shops, a spa and a GNC nutritional products store.

"Also, the cosmetics and electronic departments will be larger in the new BX," Ms. Armstrong added.

Ms. Armstrong also said outdoor living, Class 6, furniture and major appliances will continue to serve customers in the BX-tra. All other items sold there will be sold in the new BX when it opens in March.

Ms. Armstrong said that until Phase II of the construction at the BX Mall is completed, parking will be limited to about 120 spaces in close proximity to that location. The present BX, she added, is scheduled to close at 4 p.m. March 4.
