Let the games begin: Lackland kicks off May fitness challenge

The Medina Fitness Center's push-up and sit-up challenge officially introduced May Fitness Month over the weekend at Lackland.

In addition, Tuesday's pull-up challenge at the Gillum Fitness Center, and 20 other fitness competitions highlight the month-long event:

· a 750-pound cumulative bench press, squat and dead lift challenge at the Bennett Fitness Center, today, 7 a.m.;
· a baseball throw, hit and run contest at the Youth Center, Saturday, 9 a.m.;
· a sit-up contest at the Gillum, Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.;
· a football punt, pass and run contest at the Warhawk Fitness Center, Monday, 4:45 p.m.;
· an indoor triathlon at the Gateway Fitness Center, Thursday, 5:30 a.m.;
· a 5k fun run at the Gillum, May 14, 7:30 a.m.;
· America Kid's Run at the Youth Center, May 15, 9 a.m.;
· a push-up contest at the Gillum, May 19, 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.;
· a four-station circuit tough-man course at the Warhawk, May 17, 4:45 p.m.;
· an extreme mixed martial arts workout at the Chaparral Fitness Center, May 18, 11 a.m.;
· Doubles racquetball tournament at the Gillum, May 19;
· a tug-of-war challenge at the Gateway, May 20, 5:30 p.m.;
· an indoor biathlon at the Bennett, May 21, 7 a.m.;
· Aerobic-athon at the Chaparral, May 22, 10 a.m.;
· one-pitch softball tournament at the Gillum, May 22, 7:30 a.m.;
· 1.5-mile race at the Gillum, May 26, 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.;
· a 3-point contest at the Warhawk, May 24, 4:45 p.m.;
· a 3-point shootout at the Bennett, May 26, 10:30 a.m.; and, a "trail mix" run at the Gateway, May 27, 11 a.m.
