JBSA-Randolph community enjoys Famaganza entertainment, hands-on activities

By Robert Goetz Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Public Affairs

A Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph tradition continued Saturday with more entertainment value than ever.

The 902nd Force Support Squadron's Youth Programs celebrated Month of the Military Child with its annual Famaganza festival on the grounds of the youth center.

"It was amazing," Andrea Black, Youth Programs coordinator, said. "We had a lot of new attractions, such as the 902nd FSS' portable stage. We were able to entertain with acts from our You Got Talent contest. The crowd absolutely loved it."

In addition to the UGT contestants, Famaganza's nonstop entertainment included performances by the Randolph youth dance class, Randolph High School cadets dance team, Randolph Flyers gymnastics team, Randolph YP Stunnaz step dancers and Kidz Kingdom Dance Crew. The 902nd Security Forces Squadron also brought military working dogs for a demonstration.

"It was great we were able to have such talent," Black said.

She said other new attractions appealed to older children, including a rock-climbing wall, a bungee run, an obstacle course and the Games 2U Texas Big Rig mobile entertainment theater, which featured a variety of video games.

The event also featured games, inflatables, face painting, the Youth Programs Parent Advisory Council Book Fair, arts and crafts, and information booths representing many Randolph organizations, from the Airman and Family Readiness Center and Health and Wellness Center to the Randolph Toastmasters and Randolph Family Housing.

The book fair gave parents and children an opportunity to buy or order books, allowing the parent advisory council to pay for programs that benefit the youth center and the Randolph Child Development Center.

Visitors who had Famaganza brochures stamped at all the information booths and completed a survey were eligible for door prizes, including bicycles and event tickets.
Black said feedback from the survey was overwhelmingly positive.

Black estimated more than 2,000 people attended the free event.
