JBSA to host Retiree Appreciation Day at WHASC

By Stefanie Antosh 502d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

In a salute to the enduring service of our nation's military retirees, Joint Base San Antonio 502d Air Base Wing will host a Retiree Appreciation Day at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Service Center, located at 1100 Wilford Hall Loop, JBSA-Lackland, from 8 a.m. to noon on March 7, 2026. All military retirees, from every branch of service, and their families are invited to attend this event.

This annual event is a cornerstone of the JBSA community. It is designed to honor and support the valued members of our military retiree community. It will serve as a one-stop shop for retirees to access a wide-range of information, services and resources available to military retirees throughout our community. Attendees can expect to connect with various organizations and services.

Past events have offered:

  • Health and wellness screenings, such as flu shots, blood pressure checks, and mammograms.
  • Opportunities to order prescription eyeglasses (with an up-to-date prescription).
  • Retiree ID card services
  • Information booths from the Retirement Services Office, TRICARE, Texas Veterans Commission, and more
  • A chance to turn in expired or unwanted medications at the pharmacy.

The day is not only about access to services but also about camaraderie and connection. It provides a valuable opportunity for veterans to connect with fellow service members, share stories, and strengthen community ties. A sentiment from a similar event held at JBSA-Randolph captures the spirit of these appreciation days.

Retired Chief Master Sgt. Emilio Serrano shared his feelings on the day, saying, "Because of the ceremonies and the music and the booths, the day says to me that this was, and is, my Air Force life. It's icing on the cake. It's something extra that says the Air Force hasn't forgotten about its retirees."

Join us as we pay tribute to the immense contributions and sacrifices of our military retirees. We look forward to welcoming you and your family for a morning of appreciation and community.
