JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Army Col. Freddy Adams’ presidential nomination for promotion to brigadier general was confirmed Nov. 21 by congressional vote. Adams is headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, currently serving as the commander of the Mission and Installation Contracting Command, a one-star subordinate command of the Army Contracting Command.
A native of Marshall, Texas, Adams was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1998 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin, is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and was a distinguished graduate of the National Defense University Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
Prior to assuming command of the MICC in June 2024, Adams served as the Chief of Staff and Senior Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology. In this capacity, he oversaw and managed the staff operations of a principal staff within the Headquarters Department of the Army.
He has held many other leadership and staff positions throughout his 26-year career including commander of the Defense Contract Management Agency in Afghanistan, the Defense Contracting Management Agency in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and the 409th Contract Support Brigade in Germany. He served in operational assignments during two combat tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq.
His numerous awards and recognitions include the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with valor device and two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon with two awards and the NATO Service Medal. He is also authorized to wear the Combat Action Badge and Airborne Badge.
