JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
As Halloween approaches, everyone should prepare for a safe evening in addition to preparing to hit the streets for sweets.
When driving in any neighborhood on Halloween, between the hours of 5 and 9 p.m., slow down and stay alert. Children are excited and may move in unpredictable ways. They may also be wearing costumes with low visibility.
Tips for a safe Halloween:
- Stay below the posted speed limit with headlights on.
- Do not pass other vehicles that have stopped in the roadway. They could be dropping off children.
- Do not assume children can see you or are paying attention.
- Take extra time to look for children at intersections, between parked cars, in the street, medians, and curbs.
- Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
- Eliminate any distractions inside your vehicle so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Don't use a cell phone or text while driving.
JBSA Trick-or-Treating hours are from 6 to 8 p.m.
