Stay safe on Halloween

By Lori A. Bultman 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

As Halloween approaches, everyone should prepare for a safe evening in addition to preparing to hit the streets for sweets.

When driving in any neighborhood on Halloween, between the hours of 5 and 9 p.m., slow down and stay alert. Children are excited and may move in unpredictable ways. They may also be wearing costumes with low visibility.

Tips for a safe Halloween:

  • Stay below the posted speed limit with headlights on.
  • Do not pass other vehicles that have stopped in the roadway. They could be dropping off children.
  • Do not assume children can see you or are paying attention.
  • Take extra time to look for children at intersections, between parked cars, in the street, medians, and curbs.
  • Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
  • Eliminate any distractions inside your vehicle so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Don't use a cell phone or text while driving.
