JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas –
Retired U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Bob Lewis and Denise Haley, one of Lewis’s former students, visited the Band of the West “Holiday in Blue” concert rehearsal at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Dec. 4, 2023.
Lewis, a World War II veteran, was among the first troops into occupied Japan after the surrender of the Empire of Japan, on Sept. 2, 1945.
Lewis dedicated 33 years to teaching music and eventually assumed the role of music supervisor at the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio and played a pivotal role in shaping the vision and direction of the Northside Fine Arts department.
