U.S. Army WWII veteran Alan Daun is celebrated by local school children June 1, 2023, to Normandy, France, for his contributions to the war effort to kick off the commemoration ceremonies for the 79th anniversary of D-Day. The 4th Infantry Division’s participation in the 79th D-Day commemoration showcases the legacy of Ivy Soldiers who represent the Ivy “READY” mindset and remains a critical reminder of the steadfast and loyal relationship between the U.S. and our European Allies and partners.

Wildfires in Lahaina, Maui

Army Birthday Festival at the National Museum of the U.S. Army

The M10 Booker Combat Vehicle proudly displays its namesake on the gun tube during the Army Birthday Festival at the National Museum of the U.S. Army, June 10, 2023. The M10 Booker Combat Vehicle is named after two American service members: Pvt. Robert D. Booker, who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for actions in World War II, and Staff Sgt. Stevon A. Booker, who posthumously received the Distinguished Service Cross for actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their stories and actions articulate the Army’s need for the M10 Booker Combat Vehicle, an infantry assault vehicle that will provide protection and lethality to destroy threats like the ones that took the lives of these two Soldiers.

The U.S. Army has released our "America’s Army: 2023 Year in Review" website. This site features the major newsmakers from the year and the compelling moments captured by Army photographers in our Year in Photos gallery.

From the launch of the “Be All You Can Be” brand, participation in the multinational exercises Defender Europe and Operation Pathways, response to the Lahaina wildfires and the development of modernized equipment such as the M10 Booker, it has been a year of significant activity for the U.S. Army.
