JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas –
The 433rd Airlift Wing’s senior leaders and Honorary Commanders celebrated the ninth year of serving Reserve Citizen Airmen traditional Thanksgiving meals during the “Giving Thanks - Serving Airmen Thanksgiving Lunch” event at the Live Oak Dining Facility on Saturday Nov. 4.
The Honorary Commanders program creates an exchange of ideas, experiences, and friendships between key members of the local and base community. The interaction allows for frequent opportunities to visit the base to learn about the 433rd AW's mission, participate in base functions, and express views on issues of mutual concern.
This year’s event included several notable honorary commanders: San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Bexar County commissioner Tommy Calvert, Constable Kathryn Brown, Precinct 4, and a host of business leaders from the City of San Antonio and surrounding areas.
“We are feeding the troops, which is one way that our community, Military City, USA, shows appreciation for those who protect our nation at JBSA-Lackland and throughout JBSA,” Nirenberg said.
Maj. Gen. John Bartrum, Mobilization Assistant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force and Space Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, was at JBSA-Lackland for an official visit and stopped by the dining facility to lend a hand and show his appreciation for the Alamo Wing’s Airmen.
“The most important people to us are our Airmen,” Bartrum said. “This is a way to remind them we care about them and thank them for being here,” he said.
This year’s event continues a tradition of Alamo Wing leadership, allowing them an opportunity to serve meals to Airmen, reinforcing the strong bonds between members of the unit. It also exemplifies the strong partnership between the 433rd AW and the local San Antonio community.
