JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
The U.S. Army Medical Capability Development Integration Directorate at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston was the site for a tabletop exercise to highlight challenges, gaps, and/or requirements across the doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, facilities and policy, or DOTmLPF-P, spectrum, including extended care due to potential evacuation delays.
Leaders and subject matter experts from Army Medicine, Army commands, joint services and allied partners attended both in person and virtually from Aug. 28-31.
The team worked together during the event to discuss how the roles of care within the Army Health System have been sufficient over the past two decades, however, the shift towards large-scale combat operations against peer/near-peer threats in a multi-domain operations environment calls for a comprehensive re-examination of these roles.
This experimentation process evaluated the equipment, personnel, and training to meet maneuver commanders' requirements and identify areas for improvement.
During the exercise participants received briefings and updates on new technologies, data integration, simulations, medical maneuvers and treatments, facilitating discussion to chart a path forward to meet causality care requirements.
Role 1 care warrants a comprehensive investigation to uncover any challenges, gaps and requirements, with a particular focus on the provision of prolonged care due to potential evacuation delays. This analysis considers the expected transformation of the Army force by 2040.
During the final out brief, MED CDID provided senior attendees with a synopsis of the exercise findings, recommendations and a final report to present to Army leaders.
The MED CDID is the premier designer of integrated and effective world-class military medical capabilities and is aligned under the U.S. Army Futures Command.
