Residents in and around Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston may hear loud booms between 9 and 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023. The installation is celebrating Brooke Army Medical Center’s change of command from Brig. Gen. Deydre S. Teyhen to Col. Mark E. Stackle, and cannon fire is a traditional part of the ceremony.
Nearby residents and neighbors can expect about 11 volleys around 9:15 a.m. The cannons are firing blank rounds, with no projectiles. However, the noise and vibration may be heard and felt for long distances, depending on weather conditions.
