JBSA hosts National Police Week events May 15-19

National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

National Police Week dates back to 1962, when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. That same year, Congress established by joint resolution the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.

A variety of events are planned throughout Joint Base San Antonio and are open to anyone with base access.

JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON
Kickball Tournament

May 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Pershing ballpark: Double-elimination tournament, 8-10 personnel per team, families welcome.

JBSA-RANDOLPH
Golf Tournament

May 17, 9 a.m., Randolph Golf Tournament, Randolph Oaks Golf Course: $39 per person, four-person teams, includes golf cart and green fees. Shotgun start and $12 club rental.

JBSA-LACKLAND
Bowling Tournament

May 16, 1-4 p.m., Skylark Bowling Center: There are 12 lanes reserved, six-person teams (one team per lane), cost is $13 for 3 games and includes shoe rental.

24-Hour Ruck & Fallen Officer Ceremony
May 17, 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. May 18: 343rd Training Squadron 24-hour ruck and fallen officer ceremony. Located on the track adjacent to the Skylark Bowling Center and the lot across from the Security Forces Museum. Open to JBSA-Lackland, San Antonio Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff’s personnel. At 8 a.m. on May 18, the event will transition from the track to the lot across from the Security Forces Museum.  At 9 a.m. May 18, the fallen officer ceremony will begin.

Chili Cookoff
May 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Freedom Chapel: Chili cookoff, free entry for competitors, $5 for anyone who wants to eat and vote. Categories will be spicy, original and vegetarian

Retreat/Closing Ceremony
May 19, 9 a.m.: Retreat/closing ceremonies on the drill pad directly across from Security Forces Museum. A flight of Security Forces personnel made up of all three units will participate.
