San Antonio Market changes masking guidelines

59th Medical Wing Public Affairs

Based on the current COVID-19 Community Level rate and the Community Transmission rate, the San Antonio Market is changing its masking guidelines. As of March 27, universal mask wear will no longer be required in areas where patients may be encountered.

However, masking will still be required for anyone who has a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection or other respiratory infection (including those who have symptoms of a respiratory illness such as runny nose, cough, or sneeze), for those who have had close contact or a higher-risk exposure with someone with COVID-19 infection for 10 days after their exposure.

Where COVID-19 is not suspected in a patient presenting for care, staff will follow standard precautions (and transmission-based precautions if required, based upon the suspected diagnosis).

Masks are still highly recommended and encouraged for direct patient care for patients who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, or for patients who express the desire for the staff member to remain masked.

The COVID-19 community level rate and the community transmission rate will continue to be assessed to ensure our posture is consistent with DHA policy and community data. Please continue to wash and sanitize your hands frequently and test if you are symptomatic. We should all work together to stop the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.
