3. Conduct a walk-around of your facility and pick up small items that could easily be blown around by high winds. Also, ensure storm drains are clear of debris.

4. During the storm:

  • Listen to local radio or television for weather reports.
  • If a tornado warning is issued in your area take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway in your residence. If in a multiple-story building, go to the first or second floors and stay in interior rooms away from windows.
  • Stay inside and away from windows, skylights and glass doors.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed.
  • Do not go outside as the storm passes over.
  • Once the severe weather has passed use extreme care in assessing the outside of your facility and areas, in case electrical lines have been blown down.

5. If you or your personnel see a downed power line, stay away from the line and immediately call the fire department, due to fire and electric danger.
