Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students from Davenport High School in San Antonio had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Aug. 4, 2022.

The tour was sponsored by the 187th Medical Battalion as part of the Fort Sam Houston Adopt-a-School program. On March 5, 2022, the battalion signed an Adopt-a-School charter with Davenport High School, which is part of the Comal Independent School District.

The JRTOC students began their day with a visit to the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum, where they received an introduction to Army Medicine by Maj. Gen. Mike Talley, MEDCoE commanding general.

After touring the museum, the students had lunch at the Brooke Army Medical Center where they participated in a question-and-answer session with Soldiers of various Army medical specialties.

They concluded their day by getting hands-on training from Brigade Combat Team Trauma Training Course instructors, then afterwards had the chance to practice treating simulated medical causalities.
