JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
An inspection team assigned to the Department of the Army Inspector General, or DAIG, will visit Joint Base San Antonio from May 18-21 to conduct Soldier surveys as part of the New Soldier Experience inspection.
The New Soldier Experience inspection will assess the Army’s ability to transform civilian volunteers into professional Soldiers with common core values, ethical reasoning, motivation and discipline.
The DAIG intends to examine the new Soldier’s experience from initial entry training through their arrival at their initial duty assignment. In addition to this, this inspection will identify best practices from across the Army that can be replicated to ensure new Soldiers prosper and contribute to the Army’s readiness.
This inspection supports three of the Secretary of the Army’s Force Objectives, which are to build positive command climates at scale across all Army formations, reduce harmful behaviors in the Army and strategically adapt the way talent is retained into the Army in order to sustain the all-volunteer force.
During this inspection, teams will gather information via sensing sessions, interviews, mobile survey teams, and in some locations, town halls. Information from these activities will inform the final report and stakeholder recommendations.
“It is imperative that we build cohesive teams and create a positive command climate from the moment a new Soldier enlists or commissions into the Army,” said Lt. Gen. Donna W. Martin, Army Inspector General.
Survey topics include training, sponsorship, leadership, families, as well as personal and professional growth. The survey is targeting Soldiers in the ranks of E1 through E4 and all family members.
There is also a New Soldier Experience survey for leaders in the ranks of 01 through 02, WO1 through WO2 and E5 through E7. Participants remain anonymous in both surveys, which end Sept. 23, 2022.
