BAMC switching to generator power

By 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

At the request of CPS Energy and as part of Joint Base San Antonio’s city support, Brooke Army Medical Center is planning to transition to generator power today, Feb. 17, with an estimated duration of at least 24 hours in order to aid the community’s power conservation efforts.

This power transition will not impact BAMC’s ongoing inpatient care mission or support of the city’s trauma mission. This transition is expected to be transparent to patients and staff, and facilities personnel will be on hand to respond to any questions or concerns.

BAMC is well-prepared to provide this community support. About a year ago, BAMC completed an extensive upgrade to the central energy plant, bringing the latest power technology to the facility. Additionally, BAMC personnel train to respond to power outages, both planned and unplanned, throughout the year to ensure their readiness for a real-world event.

Per CPS Energy’s request, JBSA has asked all personnel on base to lower temperatures in buildings to 66 degrees and switch buildings with backup power over to generators. Base personnel should expect rolling blackouts that may occur at unpredictable times. Please dress and prepare accordingly!

Thank you for your flexibility and support as we take steps to conserve power and aid our community. Please keep an open line of communication with your chain of command on your situation and the best way forward for issues. We appreciate you!
