JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Army Lt. Gen. Doug Gabram, commanding general, U.S. Army Installation Management Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, addressed the inbound of class of installation leaders during day one of the Garrison Pre-Command Course at the IMCOM Training Facility at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston Feb. 24.
Gabram, a new commander himself after taking command of IMCOM Jan. 22, shared his leadership philosophy and tips on how to succeed in the complex world of running Army installations.
"Make no mistake about it, you are going to be challenged. Many of you on day one. You're going to face a tactical crisis. You’re not getting graded on how many bad things happen to you, but how you respond. How you get back up and keep your garrison in the fight."
Gabram's teaching point on this topic to the new garrison commanders and command sergeants major was to lean on their civilians who are the continuity on installations.
"You commanders and CSMs are temp hires,” Gabram said. “The continuity and expertise comes from your deputy garrison commander and our dedicated teams of civilians."
