JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Aficionados of chuck wagon cooking and general cowboy-style fun can round up their posse and head out to the annual Cowboys For Heroes at the MacArthur Parade Field at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30.
Kids can enjoy a petting zoo with everything from tortoises to prairies dogs to porcupines and alpacas. Spectators will be thrilled by the displays of expert horsemanship, while children enjoyed pony rides, art and crafts, and a hayride, among many activities.
And, of course, there will be free food. If you and your crew are in the mood for meat, this is the place to meet in San Antonio.
Around a dozen and a half authentic chuck wagons from all over Texas will be there serving up tons of grilled meats and all the fixings. Whether you enjoy your vittles barbecued or chicken-fried, in a stew or in a tortilla, there will be few people that will go away with empty bellies.
Last year’s event had 17 chuck wagon teams and more than 200 volunteers who fed more than 8,000 military members and their families authentic chuck wagon-style meals.
