6 reasons to check out the 2017 JBSA Air Show & Open House website

By Dan Hawkins 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 2017 Joint Base San Antonio Air Show and Open House is scheduled for Nov. 4 and 5 at Kelly Field Annex on Port San Antonio.

With the base prepared to host more than 250,000 guests over the two days, you can improve your chances of enjoying the air show by visiting the official JBSA Air Show and Open house website at www.jbsaairshow.com.

If you’ve never been to the JBSA air show, there are times when having quick, up-to-date information such as parking directions, show layout maps, security information such as prohibited items and more is just what you need to help amplify your experience.

#6: Premium Seating

Want to avoid the weather regardless of what it is and watch the show in comfort?

For the first time ever at the JBSA Air Show and Open House, premium seating is available for purchase.  Check out the “Premium Seating” link directly underneath general information for more information.

#5 Prohibited and Recommended Items

We will do everything to ensure that your air show experience is safe and enjoyable.  Before you head out to Kelly Field at Port San Antonio, it’s a good idea to look over what you can and can’t bring to the air show.

From weapons (including firearms, knives, etc..), to laser pointers and more, there are some items that can’t be permitted into the air show area and are subject to confiscation.  There are also some things you don’t want to leave behind in the car, such as water bottles, sunscreen and hearing protection to name a few!  Check out the full list on the website!

#4: Traffic and Parking Information

With huge crowds expected for the air show, you can’t afford to get off the wrong exit off Highway 90!  Checking out the parking directions map on the air show website would put you in the know of exactly how to get there and hopefully avoid the frustration of parking.

Another helpful hint is to watch the local news morning shows the day of the event as they will likely be talking about the air show!

#3: Detailed Maps of the Flight Line

Once you’re at the show, you’re going to realize just how big this event is!  So---where do you start?  Do you need an ATM or are the kiddos hungry already?   The website has a detailed map of the show area, complete with landmarks, display areas, restrooms and more so you won’t get lost in the crowd. Be sure to match your map with the top five things you need to see while at the show!

#2: Performer Lists

We know, we know…you know the Air Force Thunderbirds are here to headline the air show.  But do you know who else is coming to wow the crowd?

From the F-35A Lightning II Heritage Flight Team from Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Wings of Blue parachute jump team, as well as civilian acts such as Tora, Tora, Tora’s World War II re-enactments and Red Bull Aviation, there is a lot to see in just two days!

Links to many of the performers’ websites can be found on the air show website, giving you all the information you need in the palm of your hand!

#1: Links to JBSA Social Media

Want to connect with JBSA and talk about Airpower and everything else air show-related?  Go to the website for links to the JBSA Facebook and Twitter accounts.  From pictures, video (including live streaming of events such as the opening ceremony on Nov. 4 if you can’t make it there in time to see it live) and more, JBSA social media has you covered.
