JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
Actor and musician Gary Sinise and celebrity chef Robert Irvine hosted the Invincible Spirit Festival Sept. 15 at Brooke Army Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
BAMC staff, patients and family members enjoyed food, music and activities throughout the afternoon.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Johnson, BAMC commanding general, welcomed Sinise and Irvine, praising them for their enduring commitment to the military.
"Thank you to the Gary Sinise Foundation for their commitment to Brooke Army Medical Center," the general said. "Gary Sinise has an incredible passion for the military … and he shows his commitment in everything he does."
The Gary Sinise Foundation sponsored the event for the fifth time at BAMC, which provided free food for more than 8,000 people, live music from the Lt. Dan Band and many family-friendly activities including bouncy houses, face painting and a rock-climbing tower. H-E-B provided hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings for the event.
"We are happy to be back at BAMC," Sinise said. "And we will keep coming back as long as we are needed."
"We love you. We love being here," Chef Robert Irvine added. "Thank you for what you do for our freedom."
Prior to the event, Sinise visited with patients in the hospital and played wheel chair basketball with wounded warriors and BAMC leaders at the Center for the Intrepid.
