Arlington, Va. - A soldier assigned to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as "The Old Guard," participates in the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Flowers of Remembrance Day at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., May 24, 2026. On this day, visitors were given the opportunity to cross the plaza and place a flower in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier — an event that pays homage to the first official Decoration Day, now known as Memorial Day, which originally took place at Arlington National Cemetery in 1868.
