ARLINGTON, Virginia - Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), along with service members from across the Armed Forces, place 260,000 American flags at headstones within Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, May 25, 2023. The Old Guard has the distinction of being the ceremonial unit who places the flags at every headstone and niche for the past 55 years. Every year, over a thousand Old Guard Soldiers, place small American flags as a way to connect with their heroes as the unit represents the U.S. Army to the nation and the world.
