221111-A-IT014-005.JPG Photo By: Jose Rodriguez

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Lt. Col. Sara Hegge (center), and Col. Dewey Bechtol (right), demonstrate how to dress a notional wound on the Diesel Canine Simulator to a student at the Torah Academy of San Antonio, during the school’s Veterans Day program Nov. 11, 2022. Hegge and Bechtol, both veterinarians assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, spent their Veterans Day sharing their unique stories of service with the students. The Veterinary Corps is responsible for animal medicine, public health, food protection, and research. During the one-hour hands-on presentation, the students, ranging from kindergarten to seventh grade also got to experience what it is like to have a job in the Army Veterinary Corps like examining kosher Army Meals-Ready-to-Eat using methods similar to the Corps’ food inspectors and even got to meet a military working dog in-training named “EEphy”.
