To celebrate the redesignation to U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, or MEDCoE, the command also conducted a cake-cutting ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Sept. 16. Assisting Maj. Gen. Patrick D. Sargent and Command Sgt. Maj. William "Buck" O'Neal were the most junior and most senior personnel in the command, as is a time-honored military tradition. Instead of a sabre, MEDCoE cut their ceremonial cake with a replica of the Hospital Corps knife, which was established in 1887. Pictured (from left) are Sargent, Pvt. 1st Class Briana Castilleja Hernandez, Jesus Serbantez, and O’Neal.
