A pre-Civil War period field howitzer cannon is displayed in the foyer of the Fort Sam Houston Museum. The historic cannon, which had been put on display inside the Quadrangle for years, had been in storage in a warehouse at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston before being moved to the museum. The cannon will become the centerpiece of a new exhibit at the museum about artillery that will explain the differences between cannons, howitzers and mortar, one of several changes the museum is making to its exhibits this year.
