Alan White, 502nd Civil Engineering Squadron, architect/cultural resource manager at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, inspects a section of brick and limestone at the back of the historic Main Post Chapel, at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, that was cleaned in late April using a steam cleaning method. The exterior of the chapel was cleaned to get rid of dirt, pollution, organic material and a black mold that had formed and accumulated overtime on the masonry of the building. The cleaning of the Main Post Chapel, also known as the Gift Chapel, was conducted following guidelines for the cleaning of historic masonry buildings by the U.S. Department of Interior and the National Park Service.
