Members of the Atascosa Emergency Medical Services and the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department escort an aircrew member who was in a simulated plane crash to awaiting paramedics during a major accident response exercise (MARE) Feb. 22 in Somerset, Texas. The exercise was a joint undertaking between the 502nd Air Base Wing Inspector Generals office, Bexar County Emergency Management , the Atascosa County Emergency Medial Services and the Somerset Volunteer Firefighters Department to practice emergency response procedures in the event of an aircraft crash. As San Antonio is surrounded by smaller counties, the exercise displayed the joint efforts required to respond to off base incidents and strengthened the working relationship between Joint Base San Antonio and the surrounding communities.
