Gen. Janet C. Wolfenbarger (left), commander of Air Force Materiel Command, presided over the ceremony during which Maj. Gen. Theresa C. Carter became the first AFIMSC commander. AFIMSC serves as a single intermediate-level headquarters for the delivery of installation support capabilities throughout the Air Force and reports to Air Force Materiel Command. AFIMSC is the parent organization for several field operating units to include the Air Force Security Forces Center, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Air Force Installation Contracting Agency, Air Force Financial Management Center of Expertise, Air Force Financial Services Center and the Air Force Services Activity. The new center also administers several other installation and mission support functions such as chaplain services, logistics readiness and base communications.
